Ontario Canada Chapter Launches Educational DVD at CBTU's 41st International Convention
The 41st CBTU International Convention held in May 2012 was a great success for the Ontario Canada Chapter. For the first time, the Chapter hosted a booth launching items for sale, for raffle, and for free with our new logo with Canadian flare. Included as a free item was the new Educational DVD launched by our Chapter and Region 1. The DVD is a narrated and musically-accompanied version of one of the online presentations created by Isabelle Miller. One version is available in US English, and the other in Canadian English, for use within your locals and unions to promote awareness of the CBTU, and the format is described as a Flash-based Power Point program. Local Raises Funds for YWCA and Food Bank
TWU Local 203 hosted a fund raiser held on behalf of the YWCA at Cardel Place on April 18, 2012 in Calgary, where a viewing of Eye of the Storm took place. CBTU Communications Secretary Isabelle Miller was asked to share a few words on behalf of the chapter by event coordinator Bonnie Devine. The local was able to donate $525.00 to the YWCA in support of their important work in the community. Contributors also provided substantial donations to the Calgary Food Bank, which is in need of contributions at this time of the year. Fred Redmond of Region 6 visits Canada for CBTU
On February 16, 2012, Fred Redmond of CBTU Region 6, International Vice-President of the United Steelworkers, travelled to Canada to give a CBTU Presentation to the Executive Council of the Telecommunications Workers Union. Brother Redmond spoke of the history of the CBTU, the challenges that labour activists of colour face in the workplace and in their unions, and the importance of the work the CBTU, both at the Ontario/Canada Chapter level and as a whole. TWU President George Doubt said, "It was a great opportunity for our Executive Council to learn about the widespread Canadian, North American and international actions that the CBTU is engaged in on behalf of all workers." Brother Redmond was invited by the Chapter’s Communications Secretary Isabelle Miller to speak to her fellow Executives. “I could not think of a better way to celebrate Black History Month than to celebrate the work the CBTU does with my TWU family.” said sister Miller.
